The Definition of Insanity is Doing the Same Thing Over and Expecting Different Results however I am sure you have heard this saying at least once. If you haven’t it is quoted by Albert Einstein. This actually applies to all aspects of our lives; our thoughts, our actions, our words, and even our feelings.
Let me explain. If you are living in a situation you do not desire such as a run-down house and a bad neighborhood. Do you really think you will be able to get out of that neighborhood if you keep thinking about how bad it is there?
What is it that you believe about your current situation? If it is negative you will only attract more of what you don’t want. Like continuing to live in that run down neighborhood.
Thoughts create images that well cause our behavior. Take Lottery Winners for example who let’s say come from a background of little or no money. Have you ever noticed that 80% of Lottery Winners go broke with in a few short years of their winnings and end up filing bankruptcy? It’s true.
You see they failed to change their mindset and subconsciously acted out of their previous mindset. They literally spent, gave away, blew, and whatever else possible every dime of their winnings until they found themselves right back where they began, a poor mindset.
Stop the Insanity and Stop Doing the Same Thing Over and Over
Changing your behavior is must as well as the words you speak. For so long I was afraid to spend money because I was scared I would run out and then what? I would buy nice things for kids but when it came to myself I would shop at the Good Will. Not saying anything is wrong with the Good Will however that was my mindset.
I remember when I decided to start working on myself and my mindset I also decided to start acting like I already have the life I wanted and desired. I asked myself:
- What would I dress like?
- What would I look like? (Weight, hair, and appearance.)
- Where would I live?
- What would my house look like? (how many bedrooms, bathrooms, garages, pool etc.)
- What would I drive? (year, make and model, color etc)
These were just the main things I asked myself. When I answered these questions I realized I really want these things. Now I am not a materialistic person by any means. Therefore I felt guilty because I wanted these things. Did you catch that? I felt guilty because I wanted these things.
Again the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and expecting different results. I was doing the same thing over and expecting different results. I continued to buy my clothes at the Good Will and I continued to work a part-time job that would get me nowhere. I continued to believe I was stuck with a life of poverty.
That is until I made the decision to STOP the insanity and stop doing the same thing over and expecting different results. Instead, I started doing things differently like shopping at places I wouldn’t normally shop.
I bought myself new clothes even if it was just a shirt here and a pair of jeans there.
I joined a fitness club and started working out.
I began my dream house search.
I know exactly what car I want.
I even made the decision to move out of state!
When I stopped doing the same thing over and expecting different results… new doors began to open up. Piece by piece the life I want and desire is falling into place.
So the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and expecting different results. Are doing the same thing over and expecting different results? What is it you want? What would your life look like if you could do anything, be anything, go anywhere? Think about it.
